We again enjoyed a warm, fall day to hike to the Stone Door Overlook at Savage Gulf State Park. This is one of our absolute favorite places to go for a quick, but rewarding hike. The trail starts off paved for about 1/4 mile to the Laurel Gulf Overlook, a majestic view looking down the gulf. From here, it is only 3/4 mile of mostly flat trail to the Stone Door Overlook. We have been here so many times, but the view never disappoints! The fall colors overlooking the gulf weren't as bright as some years, but the trees along the trail still held a lot of color. The Stone Door is a large cleft between the rocks that descends 100 feet down stone steps to the base of the overlook. It's a fun adventure if you don't mind doing a few stairs! After our hike we stopped at the newly renovated Beersheba Springs Market. We didn't get lunch there, but I've hard great things about it. They have a great selection of snacks, food and souvenirs. Highly recommend a stop here after hiking!
