Spring is quickly approaching, and that means wildflower hiking! This is without a doubt our favorite time of year to hike. There's nothing quite like seeing the first wildflowers popping out. This video of from April of 2018, and it is probably the most breathtaking display of wildflowers we've seen. This hike starts out at the Savage Gulf South Trailhead near the town of Gruetli-Laager. After a short walk, the trail descends to the amazing rockhouse near Suter Falls. If you don't want to go all the way to Horsepound Falls, this is a great place to come for a short hike. The trail to Horsepound continues past Suter Falls, descending most of the way. Of course, that means it's uphill most of the way back! This particular year the purple phacelia wildflowers were out in full force. We were also surprised at how good they smell! Besides the phacelia, there is an abundance of other wildflowers, such as trillium, one of our favorites. Even though this hike is only around 5 miles roundtrip, the uphill on the way back does make it one of the more tiring we've done. We can't recommend this beautiful hike enough though!
